Graphite and oil pastel on paper, 61" x 61" (150 x 150 cm)
My drawings are scaled towards the human body and thus are confrontational to us. They are like life size sketches for my sculpture. They confirm a shape as they freeze a moment. They change the relationship between us and the dynamic form as they reduce the three-dimensional form to a condensed shape, weighted through dense surfaces that give us the illusion of depth. Angel is a form based on a petrified shark’s tooth. The drawing is one of several drawings that develop along with the plastic forms of the “Guardian Angel” (work in process). The "Drawing 1 for 'Celestial Bell'" is based on a series of earlier plastic works and work in process that toys with the idea of a hollow bronze cast in various shapes that has openings and an inner space for the potential of sound, like a bell or a belly.
